With the holiday season upon us, it is a time to reflect back and give thanks for what we have in our lives. As I reflect, I am thankful for the opportunity to have worked with the talented employees and ambitious clients of GeoDecisions. The innovation and perseverance exhibited on every project makes me proud to be part of the GeoDecisions team.

This commitment to developing cutting-edge solutions and amazing our clients does not end in the workplace at GeoDecisions. The dedication of our employees to serving and giving back to the communities in which we live manifests itself, especially now, during the holiday season. Companywide participation in the Annual Holiday Wish Program, through the donations of money and gifts to help a deserving family of five speaks to this commitment. The outpouring of employee support really allows the true spirit of the holidays to prevail. These are the memories of GeoDecisions that I will always cherish.

Improving Work Order Management at Neenah-Menasha Sewerage Commission

GeoDecisions partnered with McMahan Associates to develop the Work Order Management System (WORMS) for the Neenah-Menasha Sewerage Commission. WORMS, a web-based GIS system, serves three primary functions: asset management, interactive mapping, and work order management. "Designing and developing WORMS was an exciting process," said Roger Boissonnas, a technical architect based in GeoDecisions' Madison, Wis., office. "We were able to replace legacy applications, create an improved user experience, and utilize cutting-edge technologies within a single solution." The solution was custom built to address the specific needs of the commission using ArcGIS^® Server JavaScript API, Microsoft^® SQL Server^®, and HTML5 for full mobile device compatibility.

GeoDecisions Implements Video Log Viewer for WVDOT

The West Virginia Department of Transportation (WVDOT) will have expanded viewing capabilities of its infrastructure with a new Video Log Viewer developed by GeoDecisions. This viewer will allow for current and historical viewing and GIS map tracking of a location using the image metadata display. The technology utilizes movie player type functionality to navigate images along the roadway and provides WVDOT an asset information display for image location. The Video Log Viewer will save users precious time by providing views of the roadway instantaneously in the office via the web, versus physically driving to the site.

Spreading the Joy of GIS

GIS Day celebrations took place on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2011, with GeoDecisions participating in events throughout the country. Employees captured the essence of the day by delivering educational lectures at colleges and universities that featured real-world examples of GIS and its extensive applications and benefits in our world. Brian L. Jensen, GISP, a project manager based in the Madison, Wis., office, presented at the University of Wisconsin-Madison on Fishidy, the first location-based, social network combining fishing information, interactive waterway maps, and social connections all in one spot. David Gilbert, GISP, a senior project manager based in the State College, Pa., office, presented at the Harrisburg Area Community College on GIS and mobile applications using the iPhone. The nationwide educational outreach efforts also included presentations and exhibits at Franklin & Marshall College, the University of Pennsylvania, Shippensburg University, George Mason University, and the University of Virginia.

Rudolph Presents at Annual Missouri Broadband Summit

On Nov. 17, 2011, in Jefferson City, Mo., Missouri Broadband Now, a public-private partnership devoted to the increased availability of broadband throughout the state, hosted its Annual Missouri Broadband Summit. GeoDecisions' Brian Rudolph, GISP, a project manager based in the firm's St. Louis, Mo., office, presented to more than 100 attendees on Broadband Mapping. The session focused on the data collection and verification processes. In addition, Rudolph presented processes used to identify providers, and to collect, convert, and validate provider-submitted broadband data for the state of Missouri and the National Telecommunications and Information Administration.

Gilbert Re-elected Secretary of PAFPM

David Gilbert, GISP has been re-elected secretary of the Pennsylvania Association of Floodplain Managers (PAFPM). This will be Gilbert's second term as secretary of PAFPM. PAFPM promotes public awareness of integrated floodplain management and encourages the exchange of ideas and resources between individuals and groups concerned with floodplain management.
