His efforts have led to annual requests for presentations in the Middle East on the use of geospatial IT in public safety and national security.

Prior to joining GeoDecisions, Kevin was employed by the Philadelphia Police Department in the Crime Mapping Unit where he facilitated the successful development and implementation of various innovative client-server and web-enabled crime analysis and mapping applications. Active in his Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, community, Kevin has coached his daughter Eva's soccer youth team for several years. After playing for nearly 40 years himself, he enjoys mentoring and teaching the world’s most popular sport. In addition to coaching, he plays year-round in adult soccer leagues throughout the Philadelphia region.

An extension to his interest in the beautiful game, Kevin and his wife Katie support soccer-related charitable events. For example, they volunteered to design and implement their local soccer club’s TOPSoccer weekend program for children with special needs.

As a result, TOPSoccer sessions have been held twice-a-year over the past four years supporting dozens of children and enabling them to enjoy traditional soccer club. Kevin also has participated in the annual Scoring Goals for Autism tournament since 2010, resulting in his team raising thousands of dollars each year to directly support evidence-based research by the Autism Science Foundation.

A Taste for the Outdoors

Switala also is engaged in his church community, where he leads his Christian Education Committee and assists with teaching Sunday School and programming youth activities. On weekends between soccer and church, Kevin, Katie, Max, and Eva can be found hiking or camping in the woods throughout Philadelphia with their dog, Zumba.

Although he lives and works in the city of Brotherly Love, Kevin was raised with an outdoors-loving family in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. With a background studying a ecology in college, he continues to explore the diverse parks and wildlife in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. His other outdoor love is organic gardening, and his garden can be seen brimming with vegetables.

And, of course, growing up in Pittsburgh means only one thing - Kevin is a diehard Steelers, Pirates and Penguins fan!
