GeoDecisions Presents Technology to Area High Schools
November 14, 2002/Harrisburg, Pa.: The Technology Council of Central Pennsylvania hosted a “Technology Career Day” on Monday, Nov. 4, at the Whitaker Center in downtown Harrisburg. The event gathered close to 500 local students interested in learning more about the various technology applications and career fields that are available to them.
Bob Scaer, President of GeoDecisions, a national Information Technology company headquartered in Harrisburg, Pa., gave the group an overview of the Spatial IT industry.
“Information Technology is a growing field with a lot of exciting opportunities…and you don’t have to look far, it’s happening right here,” stated Scaer. “ Central Pennsylvania is a leader in innovative, cutting-edge technology.”
Scaer also gave area students a brief demonstration of the Intelligent Road/Rail Information Server (IRRIS) technology. The application, developed for the Military Traffic Management Command Transportation Engineering Agency (MTMCTEA), demonstrated several areas of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to the group, including real-time information and mapping, emergency management support, and wireless and PDA capabilities.
GeoDecisions’ presentation gave area students an idea of how advanced current technology is, and what a future in technology holds for them. The presentation also gave the group a real-life example of technological success in their hometown.
