GeoDecisions Develops Greenways Web Site for DCNR
December 31, 2002/Harrisburg, Pa.: GeoDecisions, a software-independent information technology company specializing in geographic information systems, and the RBA Group, recently created a new online clearinghouse for Pennsylvania greenways information. The Web site (www.pagreenways.org) features Pennsylvania-specific documents and links to resources for planning, funding, and implementing greenways.
“Placing resources in the hands of those with the drive to put greenways ‘on-the ground’ is largely responsible for the high number of greenway projects already flourishing across the state,” John Oliver, secretary of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) said. “Through the clearinghouse Web site, Pennsylvania can showcase these successes and provide information to help our partners build a network of greenway connections across the Commonwealth.”
The Web site features a bulletin board, listserv, and news notifications via e-mail. Successful greenway partnerships are also showcased and links are provided to examples of best practices. This Web site was one of the first action items outlined in “Pennsylvania Greenways: An Action Plan for Creating Connections.” This 80-page document was created in August of 2001 and includes specific strategies for building Pennsylvania’s greenways network by 2020.
