GeoDecisions Receives Grand Conceptor Award
February 9, 2003/Harrisburg, Pa.: The American Council of Engineering Companies of Pennsylvania presented GeoDecisions with the Grand Conceptor Award for its work on the Intelligent Road/Rail Information Server (IRRIS) project at the 2003 Diamond Awards for Engineering Excellence. GeoDecisions, a software independent information technology (IT) company that specializes in geographic information systems, was presented with the award at a banquet at the Hotel Hershey.
Out of 43 entries, an independent panel of experts selected IRRIS as the top project for the entire awards competition. The judges recognized the significance of IRRIS as a military tool, as well as its potential benefits to homeland security operations, IT, emergency management agencies, and nonmilitary users.
Paul W. Allred, Chief of Highway Engineering for the Military Traffic Management Command Transportation Engineering Agency (MTMCTEA), spoke highly of the application, which was developed to support MTMCTEA’s mission to aid in the global deployment of U.S. armed forces. During the ceremony, Allred stated that IRRIS saved the military $13 million in just one year, and allowed the agency to track 500,000 items in real-time, worldwide.
IRRIS is the first Web-based portal in the world designed to combine highly-detailed, local, and relevant information into one intuitive Web-based interface for military and U.S. infrastructure information.
