IRRIS™ Receives Federal Government Innovator Award

July 1, 2003/Harrisburg, Pa.: GeoDecisions, an information technology company specializing in geographic information systems, and the Military Traffic Management Command Transportation Engineering Agency (MTMCTEA) recently received a 2003 Accenture and MIT Digital Government Award.
GeoDecisions and MTMCTEA were presented with the Federal Government Innovator award for their groundbreaking work on the Intelligent Road/Rail Information Server™ (IRRIS) product on June 10 at the Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C.
IRRIS was developed by GeoDecisions to assist MTMCTEA in its mission to improve the global deployability of U.S. Armed Forces. IRRIS is a revolutionary system that provides a Web-based tool, featuring layers of information necessary for the efficient movement of military assets through the transportation system.
In addition to its functional benefits, IRRIS saved U.S. taxpayers about $13 million and allowed MTMCTEA to track 500,000 shipments last year. The application also provides a common operating picture for all government and military agencies in the event of a national emergency, improving the response time of global deployments and minimizing fatalities.
This is the fourth consecutive year Accenture, the world’s leading management consulting and technology services company, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have partnered to honor pioneering technology achievements in government and higher education. IRRIS was chosen from the almost 200 applications the nomination committee received this year.
