GeoDecisions’ GeoCAMS™ Helps Revitalize Communities
November 15, 2005/Harrisburg, Pa.: The Chester Police Department in Chester, Pa., recently awarded GeoDecisions a contract to enhance its version of the Crime Analysis and Mapping System™ (GeoCAMS™). The enhanced GeoCAMS application will provide the juvenile justice community with mapping tools to track juvenile offenders in relation to where they live and where crimes occur, to help allocate resources under a state Weed and Seed program grant.
The department’s current version of GeoCAMS Pro offers Web mapping, intelligence gathering, and incident querying functions. The enhanced version of the system will map the addresses of residents living within Weed and Seed areas. State-supported Weed and Seed programs work to revitalize communities by coordinating the efforts of community groups, social service organizations, and law enforcement. The Chester Police Department is the lead agency in a Weed and Seed effort and has partnered with community organizations to provide access to this new technology.
Using GeoCAMS mapping tools, local law enforcement, juvenile justice agencies, and community groups will work together to identify locations where additional support services are needed to enact positive change and reduce juvenile crime. GeoDecisions’ GeoCAMS application will provide the partnership with tools for more proactive crime pattern research, identification, and elimination. Access to GeoCAMS will also increase the coordination of information and activities among the region’s Weed and Seed community to provide for better decision support.
