GeoDecisions Employees Recognized For Hurricane Katrina Disaster Recovery
October 31, 2005/Harrisburg, Pa.: The Pennsylvania State University Department of Geography recently recognized GeoDecisions employees who are aiding in the Hurricane Katrina recovery efforts.
Penn State alumni Todd Smith, Brendan Wesdock, Kelly Fisher, Bryan Reid, Scott Mencer, and Tim Cooley were cited in the department’s alumni news for their work on IRRIS technology.
The U.S. military is using the Web-based transportation security and logistics application to coordinate the movement of military cargo during recovery efforts. Through the system, users can quickly identify supply routes to disaster-stricken areas and effectively coordinate the movement of military shipments to food distribution centers, emergency response locations, and other relevant destinations.
GeoDecisions, a leading information technology and geographic information system consulting firm, developed patented IRRIS technology for military and homeland security agencies to deploy armed forces and emergency personnel and to manage the movement of cargo on a global basis. IRRIS technology integrates and displays critical information about transportation infrastructure – including roads, bridges, tunnels, and dams – as well as real-time weather, traffic, and real-time vehicle locations.
