GeoDecisions Generates New Maps for the Pennsylvania Game Commission

March 15, 2006/Harrisburg, Pa.: GeoDecisions, an award-winning leader in the information technology industry specializing in geographic information systems (GIS), recently partnered with the Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) to provide detailed maps of public hunting areas.

Using GIS technology, GeoDecisions generated new countywide and regional maps for the PGC that display all of the property available for hunting and trapping throughout the state. These multi-layer maps show hunting areas by county and include locations of state game lands; farm game, forest game and safety zone cooperator enrolled lands; cooperative state and federal lands managed by the PGC; and state forest and park lands open to hunting.

The public can access maps of the hunting and trapping locations on the PGC Web site: www.pgc.state.pa.us. Users are able to scroll down to the “County Information” link and select the map that displays the county of interest. When users click the underlined county map link, a detailed PDF of the map appears.

The next phase of the project will involve converting the PGC’s hard copy maps into a digital format. This conversion will provide the PGC with more accurate data and ensure the preservation of maps and documents in the event of a fire, flood, or disaster.
