IRRIS Wins 2007 Intergovernmental Solutions Award

Receiving the 2007 Intergovernmental Solutions Award(June 15, 2007/Harrisburg, Pa.) The spotlight shone on IRRIS during the 27th Annual Management of Change conference in Richmond, Va. The technology application received a 2007 Intergovernmental Solutions Award during a ceremony on June 4, 2007, from the American Council for Technology and the Industry Advisory Council.

The awards program honors projects that demonstrate impact and results, technology leadership, intergovernmental collaboration, the ability to transform business operations, and the ability to be easily replicated by other agencies. IRRIS was one of eight projects to receive the award selected from 25 finalists and more than 100 entrants. The application is a secure geospatial Web portal that provides military planners with the access, knowledge, and visibility to effectively view, analyze, and track mobile military assets worldwide.

Paul Allred, IRRIS program manager for the U.S. Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command Transportation Engineering Agency (SDDCTEA), accepted the award. Allred and SDDCTEA developed IRRIS in partnership with GeoDecisions, an information technology company specializing in geospatial solutions based in Harrisburg, Pa.

“We are thrilled to receive this prestigious award and be recognized among such impressive competition,” Allred said. “IRRIS represents a revolutionary breakthrough in how the U.S. Military coordinates the movement of surface cargo throughout the world. We look forward to its continued growth and development, and we are eager to continue to share this technology with other government agencies.”

SDDCTEA has made the IRRIS technology framework available to other government agencies and branches of the military. As a result, other agencies within the U.S. government have adopted the technology to support their critical missions and objectives. The technology ties together infrastructure information (such as data on roads, bridges, and waterways) and live data (including near-real-time weather and traffic) and displays the information on an interactive digital map.

This innovative approach to bring together information that might interfere with the movement of goods – and display the data in a map format – gives users the tools to effectively organize and track assets or shipments. More information about IRRIS can be found at www.irris.com.
