GeoDecisions Develops Recreation Web Portal for Washington County, Wis.
July 7, 2010/Harrisburg, Pa.: GeoDecisions, an information technology company specializing in geospatial solutions, teamed with the Washington County Planning and Parks Department to develop an interactive Web mapping application that allows citizens to explore recreation resources and opportunities within the county. The application provides citizens and visitors with an informative, user-friendly, and visually appealing mapping application that helps promote active living and recreation.
Built on ArcGIS® Server technology and the Adobe Flex™ framework, the application includes familiar navigation tools with base map and aerial photo views. The application also gives users the ability to identify features and query parks, lakes, trails, and recreation routes based on multiple criteria options, such as the distance closest to an address. Other unique features include the ability to customize a printable map and links to third party recreation sites, such as such as www.walkscore.com and www.mapmyrun.com.
The site is part of a larger countywide initiative that promotes active living and the vast network of recreation opportunities within the county. Get Moving Washington County – www.getmovingwashingtoncounty.com – involves coordination, data collection, and planning between Washington County departments, local municipalities, and nonprofit agencies, including the YMCA of Washington County. The initiative also includes the development of a traditional Web site and a published hard copy recreation map.
