GIS Strategic Plan

Client: Ohio Department of Transportation

GeoDecisions worked with ODOT to develop a GIS strategic plan to guide the department’s GIS efforts for a five-year period. The project involved reviewing ODOT’s technical architecture, identifying user needs, and preparing a strategic plan.

For this project, GeoDecisions analyzed existing systems and current GIS operations. The project team then identified upgrades and improvements necessary to provide expanded GIS and IT capabilities.

GeoDecisions identified user needs through a GIS visionary workshop and on-site interviews. The visionary workshop determined the GIS mission, vision, goals, and objectives of the agency. Following the interviews, the project team identified possible priority applications and incorporated key observations to help make GIS successful.

To augment the needs identified in the interview sessions, the project team administered an online survey. The additional information helped GeoDecisions to prepare a comprehensive GIS strategic plan.

GeoDecisions customized a comprehensive GIS strategic plan that supports ODOT’s vision, mission, and future needs.
