Our firm developed and deployed the Virginia Transportation Information Portal (VTIP), which facilitates access to the Virginia Department of Transportation's (VDOT's) current roadway incident information. VTIP provides a near real-time view of traffic incidents in VDOT's Staunton, Salem, and Bristol districts – heavily traveled areas along the Interstate 81 corridor in Virginia. By making this information easily accessible in one software platform, this application supports effective and responsive decision making at the VDOT Smart Traffic Centers.

VTIP provides an easy-to-use, Web-based spatial data portal using ESRI ArcIMS with an Oracle SDE database to provide access to static and real-time information. Also, a rich set of tools enables users to readily access information to monitor incidents and enhance system operations along the Interstate 81 network. VTIP was initially deployed as an intranet application on the VDOT network, accessible only by those with secure access logins. VTIP is slated to be deployed as a customized Internet portal for other organizations to view and query VTIP's incident and geographic information.
