Statewide Strategy for Traffic Management Centers

We worked with the Bureau of Highway Safety and Traffic Engineering (BHSTE) in the development of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's (PennDOT's) statewide strategy for traffic management centers (TMCs) and the concept of operations for the proposed statewide TMC and regional TMC. This initiative involved compliance with PennDOT's transportation systems operations plan and collaboration with BHSTE personnel, each of PennDOT's 11 districts, and key regional and statewide stakeholders to determine how existing district TMCs, proposed regional TMCs, and the proposed statewide TMC will operate throughout the Commonwealth.

This 24/7 statewide operational environment effectively addresses the operational needs of Pennsylvania's urban and rural transportation network. As part of the project, our firm developed a flexible, multi-phase strategy to implement statewide operations capabilities in accordance with PennDOT's needs and the anticipated funding levels during a 10-year period.
