Adams Electric coverage area spans approximately seven counties providing service to more than 9,000 members through 2,190 miles of electrical line.GeoDecisions provided Adams Electric with various GIS services that included, updating its map book, converting the GIS to ESRI ArcGIS, updating fuses and switches from hard copy source documents, integrating GPS data, and developing a custom plotting application to duplicate the hard copy maps for field use until the deployment GeoDecisions also updated all of Adams Electric’s AutoCAD files from redlined hard copies maintained in its map book. Once all records were current, GeoDecisions began the GIS conversion process, which included alignment to high resolution ortho imagery. The Adams electrical network conversion included approximately 61 townships/section maps, 111 blow-up areas (11 quarter townships), 13 circuit drawings, and 12 new subdivisions. The use of ortho imagery greatly improves the degree of accuracy and precision when placing the electrical features as opposed to conventional conversion. The high degree of spatial accuracy greatly aided in the integration of GPS field data. Fuse and switches were updated following the conversion process.
