Transportation Information Sys Requirements and LRS Design

Client: Montana Department of Transportation

Two key high-priority initiatives were identified in the MDT GIS Strategic Plan for immediate work. The first was the update of the Location/Linear Referencing System (LLRS). The first phase of this initiative involved developing the system architecture and a logical database design for the LLRS. The architecture and logical design will provide the foundation for integration and distribution of data in many of MDT’s other business data systems.

The second key initiative was to upgrade and improve the Transportation Information System (TIS). MDT’s current TIS houses much of our LLRS-related data and is the storage facility for many of Montana’s roadway characteristics. As part of the project, GeoDecisions captured and documented the requirements for the TIS.
