Robert M. Scaer is a registered professional engineer and president of GeoDecisions, a company that specializes in geospatial/ information technology (IT) solutions. In the last nine years, Mr. Scaer has grown GeoDecisions from a basic geographical information systems (GIS) mapping company with six employees to a comprehensive GIS/IT consulting firm with more than 150 professionals and 20 offices nationwide.
GeoDecisions operates as a division of Gannett Fleming, Inc., an international planning, design, and construction management firm based in Harrisburg, Pa. With more than 22 years of professional experience at Gannett Fleming, Mr. Scaer currently serves as senior vice president, a member of the firm’s board of directors and chief information officer, overseeing the corporation’s enterprise IT system.
Mr. Scaer’s contributions to the IT industry have extended beyond the corporate community. He testified before the U.S. Congress on the use of geospatial technology for homeland security and serves on the Congressional ITS Caucus Public Sector Advisory Committee. He is also an advisory board member for the Information, Sciences, and Technology program at The Pennsylvania State University.
Mr. Scaer is a charter member of the Association of Transportation Safety Information Professionals and a member of the Open GIS Consortium, Navy League, and the National Defense Industrial Association.
He holds a bachelor of science in civil engineering from Purdue University and a master of business administration from The Pennsylvania State University. He currently resides in Mechanicsburg, Pa., with his wife Robin and four children.
