(November 2, 2015/Harrisburg, Pa.) GeoDecisions was recognized in the American Council for Engineering Companies (ACEC) of West Virginia 2015 Engineering Excellence Awards program for developing and enhancing the West Virginia Department of Transportation (WVDOT) web-based grant application. The project received a WVDOT Department of Highways Engineering Excellence Award in the Planning, Traffic, and Environment category. GeoDecisions is an information technology (IT) company specializing in enterprise geospatial solutions.

A more efficient process, GeoDecisions’ web-based grant and submittal system enhancements eliminate paper applications and help the WVDOT Department of Highways Grant Administration Unit manage the federal Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP). A popular funding source for local community development, TAP encompasses construction, upgrade, or maintenance of motorized and non-motorized assets.

The grant application system and TAP enable WVDOT staff to better administer West Virginia rail, bicycle, pedestrian, and engineering guidance programs. System upgrades make it easier to capture data elements for reuse and resubmittal. In addition, the application provides applicants with automatic status reports and award notification.

“Our enhanced WVDOT grant application features a robust reporting engine with flexible filters and configurations that enable WVDOT users to modify components when instructions, links, or contacts change,” said Nate Reck, government solutions director for GeoDecisions based in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. “The system’s dynamic mapping facilitates grant data visualization in the context of geographic and political boundaries.”

ACEC West Virginia advocates and recognizes outstanding engineering efforts of its member firms. GeoDecisions’ WVDOT Engineering Excellence Award acknowledges the positive impacts of applying geospatial IT solutions to the transportation community.
